  • Describes the indirect object of a sentence
  • Answers the question to who? (wem?) or what? (was?)
  • Used for indirect objects which usually receive an action from the direct objects (in the accusative case)
  • Examples
    • I am giving you a flower
      • Ich schenke dir eine Blume
      • Eine Blume schenke ich dir
    • Der Jungen gibt dem Mann den Schlüssel
      • Subject (who or what is giving) : Der Jungen
      • Direct object (who or what is given): den Schlüssel
      • Indirect object (to who or to what is given): dem Mann
